The essentials

Coverage built around a season of life.

Start with your needs and budget. Then review the actual policy terms and available options.

01 / PURPOSE

Start with your responsibilities.

Consider the income, caregiving, debt payments, and future expenses your family would need help with if you died.

02 / DURATION

Choose the coverage period.

Term life covers a specified period. Discuss how long your obligations may last and whether premiums stay level throughout the chosen term.

03 / DETAILS

Know what happens next.

Review expiration, renewal pricing, and any conversion option. Benefits and deadlines differ by policy; renewal may cost more.

Term life generally does not build cash value. A death benefit is payable only under the policy’s terms while coverage is in force. Coverage and premiums are subject to underwriting and insurer approval.

Protection for a defined period

How term life works.
A window of protection.

Term life can help address temporary financial responsibilities. Match the amount and length of coverage to the people who rely on you.

Choose an amount

Consider income replacement, caregiving, debts, and future family expenses. Subtract dependable resources and existing coverage to help identify a potential gap.

Choose a term

Discuss how long support may be needed. A mortgage, children becoming independent, or years until retirement can help frame the conversation.

Keep coverage active

Pay the required premiums. For a level-premium term policy, the premium stays fixed for the stated level period. Verify that period and any policy conditions.

Protect your beneficiaries

If the insured dies while coverage is in force, the insurer reviews the claim and pays eligible benefits under the contract. Keep beneficiary information current.

Educational example only; not an offered policy or quote. Term lengths, level periods, renewal rights, maximum ages, exclusions, and conversion provisions vary. Term life generally has no cash value. Standard term coverage generally pays no benefit merely because you outlive the term; optional return-of-premium products differ and may cost more.

Renewal and conversion are different

Renewal may let you continue term coverage after the initial period, often at a higher premium and subject to age limits.

Conversion, if included, may let you move to eligible permanent coverage within a deadline. Available products, costs, and conditions depend on the policy.

Questions to bring to Seth

  • How long will my family depend on this support?
  • How long are the premium and benefit level?
  • What happens if I miss a payment?
  • What are the renewal costs and conversion deadlines?
  • What exclusions, riders, or underwriting requirements apply?

Plan for the people, then choose the policy.

A coverage amount is a planning decision, not an automatic multiple of income. Review your responsibilities, budget, existing insurance, and changing needs before choosing a term policy.

Questions worth asking

Clarity before commitment.

How much term coverage do I need?

Start with your financial obligations and the support your family would need, then consider existing insurance and other resources. Seth can help you discuss those inputs without relying on a one-size-fits-all number.

What happens when the term ends?

Coverage may end, or the policy may offer renewal at a higher premium. Some policies offer conversion to permanent insurance within specified deadlines. Ask about the actual options and costs before buying.

Will I need a medical exam?

Underwriting varies by insurer and product. Some applications may require an exam or medical information. No-exam availability does not mean approval is guaranteed.
